Monica became in love with glass from the first time when she saw a retailers catalog and started searching for glass arts products and possibilities. She dedicated her entirely graduation project to investigate and understand glass and the different techniques to work with it.
During the investigation she found that fused glass have a lot of possibilities for experimentation in color, shape, fusing process and versatility to create many types of products.
4 years ago Monica started Láttimo, her jewelry business. She has participated for 3 years in Expoartesanias which is the most important arts & crafts event in Latin America and through this event Láttimo has flown to many countries like USA, Canada, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Australia and Spain.
Glass is an ancient material that has been used through years for a variety of products. Durability, fragility, longevity, transparency are qualities of glass that give products a differentiation which no other material can give. She likes to create jewelry that lasts in time using the characteristics of glass as attributes that no other material can approach.
Along with her passion for glass, is her love for color and the unique patterns that color alone creates. Her inspiration comes from everything that surrounds her, art, graphic design, photography, fashion design and nature, from which she captures many ideas, colors, patterns, shapes that she uses to create the glass pieces.
All of the glass pieces you find in her collection are designed and handcrafted in her studio in Medellín-Colombia. The glass pieces are created from cut pieces of glass that are carefully layered, fired and annealed to ensure good quality, longevity and style. She uses colored glass sheet, very tiny glass sticks and dichroic glass that is a type of glass that transmits one color and reflects another.
